Howell, CPA, is charged with assessing effective and efficient administration\/management of California government&#8217;s public funds, programs and operational activities.<\/p>\n<p>Among the California Auditor&#8217;s latest reports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The California Lottery has not provided required funding to education, and the State Controller&#8217;s Office has not effectively overseen the Lottery&#8217;s performance. 2\/25\/2020<\/li>\n<li>The California Department of Fish and Wildlife wasted more than a half million dollars of state and federal funds when it purchased a custom-built boat in June 2017 that it cannot use for research surveys as it intended. As a result, the research boat has been largely unused for more than two years. 4\/2\/2020<\/li>\n<li>A California Department of Veterans Affairs care home administrator wasted nearly $38,000 by failing to ensure that staff followed state procedures to inspect a bedbug treatment oven equipment which has been inoperable since its delivery. It\u00a0has deteriorated because staff left it outdoors and unprotected from the elements for more than four years. 4\/2\/2020<\/li>\n<li>The Pet Lover&#8217;s specialized license plate program which provides funding for subsidizing free or low-cost animal sterilization services is at risk of failure, but the agency in charge (Food and Agriculture) has not responded adequately. 3\/26\/2020<\/li>\n<li>Millions of children in Medi-Cal have not received required testing for lead poisoning. 1\/7\/2020<\/li>\n<li>The State&#8217;s financial reporting and accountability is now a high risk issue. 1\/30\/2020<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you have time on your hands check out the California State Auditor&#8217;s website (auditor.ca.gov).
