A Queen Anne Victorian house built in 1897 sits in a neighborhood of preserved homes just down the street from the modern-looking museum. Listed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/museums\/salinas-steinbeck-house.html\">National Register of Historic Places<\/a>, the house is open to the public for daytime dining!<\/p>\n<p>For around $10-15 you can sit\u00a0 in the very rooms where the young Steinbeck spent time with his mom &amp; dad&#8211;his parents moved into the property in 1900. Steinbeck was born in 1902 and lived to 1968.
