One such bridge is the historic <strong>Bridgeport Covered Bridge<\/strong> in South Yuba River State Park, Nevada County. It is the longest single-span wood-covered bridge in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/bridges\/bridgeport-covered-bridge.html\">Celebrating its 150th year in April<\/a>, the nonprofit organization (<!--StyleSheet Link--><!--StyleSheet Link--><!--StyleSheet Link--><!--StyleSheet Link--><!--StyleSheet Link-->southyubariverstatepark.org) that helps maintain a California State Park on the closure list of parks losing funding &amp; staff in July 2012, is putting together a shindig to honor this coveted and beloved bridge which once was a toll bridge for miners during the Gold Rush. Known as Historical Landmark 390, the 1862 Bridgeport Bridge was built by David Isaac John Wood with lumber from his mill in Sierra County. The bridge was part of the Virginia Turnpike Company toll road which served the northern mines and the busy Nevada Comstock Lode.<\/p>\n<p>One month after the 150-year old bridge celebrates its birthday with hundreds attending the ceremonies, San Francisco celebrates the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seecalifornia.com\/traveltips\/golden-gate-bridge-celebrates-75th-year-with-a-party\/\">Golden Gate Bridge 75th anniversary<\/a> in May with hundreds of thousands in attendance!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Photos: Looking at Bridgeport Bridge from the outside (left) and standing inside the bridge looking out Who needs the bridges of Madison County, when California has some of the finest covered bridges you&#8217;ll find?
