The ship was originally designed for the WWI war effort but never got a chance to serve. The war ended and the vessel was transformed into a party boat that was docked offshore in Aptos (Santa Cruz County). The party only lasted two seasons till the builder of the project went belly up. Today, some 80 years later, you can still see the remains of the ship. Walk to the end of the pier to gaze down on the ship that you can&#8217;t access, but can see through a fence.
