OR spend a day in San Pedro riding the Red Car, watching Fanfare water show and visiting Cabrillo Beach and Cabrillo Marine Aquarium for $4-10.

Just 31 miles from Disneyland in the Los Angeles harbor there’s a world of family entertainment minus the Disney prices. Although you can hop aboard a Disney cruise ship and head toward open seas at the L.A. Port, you can stay on the cheap and have fun, spending less than $100 for a family of 4,5 or 6 even!

$1 – The Pacific Electric Red Car is a vintage train ride on a replica train once providing transportation to beaches around L.A. It goes Fridays through Sundays 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for $1. Ride as many times as you like! There’s an old fashioned conductor on board and the interior design provides the actual look & feel that guests would have enjoyed from the early to mid 1900’s. Ride all day for $1 person and park free in a parking lot provided for guests (portoflosangeles.org).

FREE – Fanfare. One of the stops at the end of the Red Car line lets you off at Fanfare, the multi-million dollar water fountains that provide musical shows in which the water jets dance in computer-controlled synchronized rhythm to songs every 15 minutes. What fun! It is absolutely free–kids love to dawdle around the fountains and play with the water. Sure, they’ll get a little wet.

Free – Cabrillo Marine Aquarium (cabrillomarineaquarium.org). In the same parking lot where you park your car for the Red Car ride, you can switch gears and hop on the free shuttle bus to head on over to Cabrillo Beach to see Cabrillo Marine Aquarium. Home to the original Grunion Greeters program, the aquarium loves & accepts donations but you can enter for free, and with a family of four to six people, that’s a heck of a deal! No one is ever turned away!

Free – Parking is available at the Downtown Station at 6th Street, Ports O’ Call Station at Sampson Way and Marina Station at 22nd Street.

SAN PEDRO, CALIF. — Spend a day at Disneyland with a family of 4 to 6 people costing you around $350-600.
