Are you looking for free California Summer Concerts?  There are thousands of them. Most concerts are held in parks, at night. They invited you to bring a picnic basket, a blanket or low-back lawn chair and listen to great music at no cost.  Get relief from the heat on cool summer nights with free concerts at parks, beaches and public places where visitors enjoy musical entertainment ranging from rock and pop to jazz and blues, Country Western to 50s, 60s, and beyond.  Get out and dance, picnic, romance, and listen to the music. Many cities have concert halls and music events throughout the year that you can pay to see, so we made a list of free summer concerts for you to enjoy.

Summers sizzle with the sounds of talented musicians and musical acts on hot summer nights! The California music scene is cutting edge, and with the industry's prominence brings the cottage industry of small bands often comprised of  studio musicians, music instructors and famous talents that prefer the low key outdoor venues that California does best. Music doesn't limit itself to one genre, as you'll see when you look at the list of concerts featured in various cities and towns. The top themed or most sought out music in 2012 continues to be rock. There are some original rock bands and many, many tributes to classic rock bands. Elvis still is on the playbill, along with a little bit of country, some Latin sizzle, marchiachis, and jazz and blues. Most cities try to offer one or several rock & roll acts, some 70s-90s, and then they mix it up with other types of groups. In certain places such as Long Beach and Redlands you'll find emphasis on the community bands that offer a staple diet of patriotic, swing, jazz, movie themes music and some rock tunes. And to round it out, places such as Central Coast, Mendocino Coast and Corona del Mar host classical music concerts. Not all are free, but most the concerts held in parks are. The guidelines in most cities includes low-back chairs and blankets, but no high back chairs. Some allow pets, while some don't. Most parks don't permit smoking at the concerts, and some allow wine or beer (some even sell it there such as West Sacramento's concerts) while others are alcohol free.
