Art From Scrap Green Holiday Celebration

Are you looking for a fun and unique way to celebrate the holidays? Come to Art From Scrap on Friday, December 10, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 pm, for a Holiday Open House and Party. Have A Green Holiday Season in Santa Barbara, CA.

The evening includes mulled wine, appetizers, and an opportunity to make an ornament with local assemblage artist Mary Price. The open house is a celebration of the holiday season and a way to say thanks to everyone in the community for your support. The Art From Scrap Reuse Store will be open during the event. Browse through thousands of treasures (donated by local businesses and individuals) for low-cost options for holiday gifts. If you plan on making your own presents for the holidays, there is a vast selection of arts and crafts supplies.

The Open House will also offer a last look at the Retro Muse Exhibition, which features the work of well known assemblage artists Susan Tibbles, Tony Askew, Dug Uyesaka, Ron Robertson, and Alver. Retro Muse is the AFS Gallery Finale Show for 2010 and will close on December 11, 2010.

Actor Tim Robbins in Culver City for Weekly “Conversations”

The Actors’ Gang presents new counter-programming series on Monday and Tuesday evenings called Axis Mundi Series. Described as a conversation, film talkback, performance art, comedy series curated by Academy Award-winning actor and Actors’ Gang artistic director Tim Robbins, and featuring members and friends of The Actors’ Gang, all proceeds benefit The Gang’s community outreach programs. Some events co-benefit The Veteran’s Project.

* Tues., Dec. 7: ¡SATIRISTAS! – Paul Provenza and Dan Dion present their live version of the irreverent book. A cadre of provocateurs and proud comic voices targeting political hypocrisy, media distortion and the institutionalized ignorance infecting America, chew the fat of tradition and eat the press for ninety minutes once a month- all courtesy of the First Amendment. Tonight’s topic is “Missed Givings.”

* Mon., Dec. 13: ITVS Community Cinema series – Free film screening of The Calling by Daniel Alpert. A look at four young Americans preparing to become the nation’s next generation of religious leaders, The Calling explores the forces that are drawing young people to serve their communities and their faith. Community Cinema is a groundbreaking public education and civic engagement initiative featuring free monthly screenings of films from the PBS Emmy Award-winning Series Independent Lens. * Tues., Dec. 14: Dark Side of Oz – A visual/audio mash up of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and The Wizard of Oz. BYOW

* Tues., Dec. 21: GET LIT! – An evening of poetry that matters performed by Los Angeles’ award-winning teen poetry troupe, the Get Lit! Players. Teen friendly event!
