The action may be on the sand but when Halloween arrives Trick-or-Treaters dump their pails, dust off their feet and hoof it to beach merchants for free candy. From San Diego’s Ocean Beach to Newport, Huntington, Long Beach, Santa Monica, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz and beyond, hundreds of thousands of costume clad kids, adults and pets went scavenging at beaches last night for treats and a good time.

Why is trick or treating so popular at California Beaches?

  • Your costume can consist of flip-flops and sleeveless to accompany the 82-degree weather–priceless!
  • Pacific coast sunsets this time of year are the color of Halloween, seen in the Oct. 31 picture with Mary Poppins & the Chimney Sweep.
  • People re-energize at the beach, enhancing Halloween (and every holiday to come.)
