If you have recently traveled on Goldenwest Street in Huntington Beach, you’ve probably done a double-take seeing one of the biggest U.S. flags flying high atop two 85-foot tall Washingtonia robusta palm trees on oil man and landscape contractor Ron Brindle’s property. Spectacularly illuminated at night with red, white and blue lights, the patriotic former Navy Seabee’s flag can be seen far away. More than 20-feet wide and 30-feet long, it was originally given to the parents of a deceased serviceman.

  • “I respect everyone serving in our military, and especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to help keep us Free. It’s a privilege to fly the flag in their honor,” said Brindle.
  • “I love the flag and all that it’s about,” said former U.S. Marine Erik Peterson.
“It makes me glad to be an American,” said Rosa Martinez, who stopped to see it with her clildren, Jose, Maria and Joaquin.
