If you’re longing for blue skies and the mellow music of the islands as rain washes through California this week, you can transport yourself to a special place at an event that takes you there. Pictured is Jeff Peterson, who returns to the The Slack Key Festival in Redondo Beach on January 20, 2019.  Recognized as one of Hawaii’s most versatile musicians, Jeff Peterson provides a transcendent voice on the guitar which is actually deeply rooted in the traditions of his Hawaiian heritage. His focus on Slack Key guitar, classical, and jazz music provides the audience with an upbeat, yet relaxing experience you never forget. Jeff is among the handpicked cast — George Kuo, Jim “Kimo” West (long-time guitarist for Weird Al Yankovic,) Kawika Kahiapo, Sonny Lim, Ikaika Marzo and Teresa Bright–at California’s premier Slack Key music festival.

If you’d rather hear banjos in the mix, head for the Sonoran Desert’s Blythe Bluegrass Festival at Colorado River Fairgrounds Jan.18-20. One of the biggest bluegrass events in the U.S. features three days of music on multiple stages. Acts include Junior Sisk, Cedar Hill, The Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, Possum Trot, Sawmill Road and many of the world’s best fiddlers and pickers.

In the Bay Area the return of Wobbleland Jan.18-19 to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco serves up two days of music with no promises to soothe you so much as wake you from your winter sleep. Acts such as Zomboy, Funtcase, Blunts & Blondes, He$h, Bommer and Subtronics, are wired for sound. You won’t be down during this electrifying event.

You pick it on this musical, magical weekend.
