Just yesterday SeeCalifornia.com posted a story about Catalina Island’s Airport in the Sky. Today when we received a review of a new book featuringĀ the magical, magnificent “Catalina Island–Through the Eyes of Artist Bill Anderson,” it seemed more than coincidence. Perhaps, it’s Island Fever (in reverse) that’s making us think about the jewel 20+ miles off the California Coast.
After a week of rain in Southern California, Catalina Island comes back into focus by mainlanders such as Anderson who visits Catalina often and gazes at it from his gallery, next to Captain Jack’s Restaurant on Pacific Coast Highway in Sunset Beach.
His book reveals a genuine love affair by the artisan who uses realismĀ and abstraction, sketches and watercolors, putting the viewer on the island, peering out at the boats in the bay by moonlight, hiking through the hills, dining among the bustle of nightlife and gazing in awe at the sweeping Avalon panorama.
