Woodie car clubs span the U.S., with the National Woodie Club based in Lincoln, Nebraska, believe it or not! However, there are few states where the weather treats these prized possessions better than California, home to nearly half a dozen woodie car clubs. The loosely organized groups of car enthusiasts fueled by passion, keep their clubs running like their cars (with lots of TLC!)

Woodies, old station wagons once known as Estate Wagons, have a rich history dating back as early as the 1920’s when real wood was routinely used in car panels and parts.

You’ll hear all kinds of crazy stories when you talk to woodie owners and ask about their automobiles. Some use(d) their cars to help get dates — and one guy we know swears his marriage has lasted 50 years because he’s kept his woodie in great shape! He took his wife on their first date in the forest green woodie that draws oohs and aahs everywhere it goes. Wife drives an SUV and lets hubby take spins alone in his woodie alone these days.
