You’ve heard of “texting addiction”, right? It’s a syndrome requiring special treatment and drugs — without help it may cost you your life!

I was waiting in line to purchase a few items at Trader Joe’s yesterday when I watched and waited for the girl in front of me to finish her transaction. The clerk who rang up her bill was watching and waiting, too, as were three people in line behind me. What were we all waiting for? The girl (lady) was texting someone as we all stood there waiting. Finally the clerk said, “Can you please finish signing your name on your credit card transaction?” She stared at her phone a little longer, made a few taps on it, and then looked over at him and looked down to sign. As she left, the entire line chattered in disbelief that we were all made to wait while she texted. The clerk was amazed the most as he apologized to customers in line for having to wait. “I’ve never seen anything like that,” he said. “She was oblivious to what she was doing and where she was.”

After that, I went for a walk at the beach. I said hi to a lady coming right at me, just to let her know she was walking into the path of other people. She looked up from her cell phone (she was texting, too) and tried to get out a word but her mouth was stuck. It couldn’t form any words and she couldn’t talk. Her mouth just hung open and she looked confused, then stared back down at the phone as she stepped into the street without looking to see if any cars were coming.
