Back to School Shopping Great Time to Get Prepared

Some Californians celebrate earthquakes with a festival.  Some take an earthquake vacation or visit the Earthquake exhibit in San Francisco.   But most of us ignore living in earthquake territory until something happens, requiring that we pay attention. Being prepared for a natural disaster is incredibly important, and with all of the resources available to us there is no reason not to have a kit. In a large, watertight container, you should store enough supplies to last for 72 hours.  See: ready.gov

• Water: 1 gallon per person, per day
• Non-perishable food, should require minimal cooking
• Plates, utensils, can opener
• First aid kit with regular medications and allergy listings
• Copies of birth certificates, and identification cards
• Warm clothes and blankets
• Heavy work gloves
• Basic tools: hammer, wrench, screwdriver, crowbar, bungee cords, rope
• Duct tape and tarp
• Garbage bags
• Toilet paper, tissue, feminine hygiene products
• Radio with batteries
• Whistle
• Family emergency plan for evacuation and reunification
