Beaches: Know Before You Go

Santa Monica Pier  and Redondo Beach Pier have areas included in the water quality warnings this week

Though there’s a recommended 72 hour wait period after it rains when you should not go in the Pacific Ocean, visitors need to know about problematic spots along the California coast. When tourists come to the beach and suddenly feel ill with symptoms such as stomach aches, chills and sore throats or infections, they seldom consider contact with water as a possible source of their illness. Monitoring in recent years has helped thousands of people become aware of unhealthy water where contact should be avoided. According to Heal the Bay, there are some beaches to beware of this week in counties: San Mateo, Marin, Santa Cruz, San Diego, Orange, Monterey, Humboldt, Alameda and Los Angeles.
