Best Year in 30 to See Whales

Record-breaking numbers of migrating gray whales are passing by Long Beach right now as the start of the gray whale migration season has begun! Also sighted over the past few weeks are orcas, humpbacks, and fin whales as well as dolphins.  On December 26, 2014 two high-speed catamarans were surrounded by a friendly pod of killer whales that spent the whole trip with the boat.  15 gray whales were also spotted. This is the fourth year in a row that orcas have visited the Long Beach coast during New Year’s week. The public can witness these majestic mammals in their natural habitat on 2-2.5 hour daily departures at 12 and 3 pm. 9 am weekend cruises starting January 3, 2015.
