Several book festivals and fairs are taking place this week. Los Angeles Times Festival of Books April 9 & 10, 2016 on the USC Campus is a free admission event. Featured guests include Arianna Huffington and Carrie Brownstein (ticketed events).  Actor/producer Henry Winkler, Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Senator Barbara Boxer, Dee Dee Myers (White House Press Secretary for Bill Clinton), Joyce Carol Oates, Actor Nate Corddry, and PBS host Tavis Smiley are among more than 100 authors and personalities at the event which includes bands performing. The stage features a crosssection of sound — from indie rock to reggae. John Doe (punk band X,) Buyepongo, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones and the USC Marching Band are all on hand. According to shopping trends, e-book sales are down dramatically and online print book sales have risen from a low of 28% five years ago to 66% in 2015. Indie booksellers continue to find an audience and are again hosting Bookstore Day.
