If you haven’t done so lately it’s time to take stock of potential fire hazards around the home. Here’s a checklist of items to pay attention to, used by Santa Barbara County Fire Department, which performs free fire safety home inspections. In addition to the free home visits, they take part in an annual, fun Christmas Tree Burn in Solvang.  There’s a purpose to all the burning, however, as the department’s largest fire safety demonstrations and community gathering on California’s Central Coast (an estimated 2,000 people attend,) shows how quickly dry pine needles can burn, sometimes leading to larger unintended fires.  In addition to the learning aspect of the event,  Georgia’s Smokehouse BBQ, rockabilly music from the Cadillac Angels, popcorn and hot chocolate offer some smokin’ refreshments and entertainment. Time: 5-7 p.m. Location: Santa Ines Mission, 1760 Mission Dr.  For fire safety tips see: sbcfire.com
