Cabrillo Festival at National Monument in San Diego

Published on: September 30, 2012

Each year in San Diego there’s a Cabrillo Festival held at Point Loma. The event celebrates the arrival of Juan Cabrillo and his discovery of San Diego in 1542. Climbing out of his ship and onto shore in 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo stepped into history as the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. The celebration takes place on September 30, 2012, as one of many annual events at Cabrillo National Monument, which was established in 1913 and turns 100 in 2013. More info: nps.gov/cabr
