Tomato lovers are delighted to know that growers, sellers and festival planners are on the go–they’ve pretty much set their dates for the 2013 tomato festival events.  Southern California’s wacky Tomato Battle where everybody gets wet and the new Northern California location in Pleasanton at Alameda Fairgrounds prove that not all tomato celebrations are created equal.  The good news is that you can have your tomatoes and eat them, too! You can stomp on them, throw them, smash them, cut them, dice them, and best of all–eat these delicious, red, ripe fruits. Recent studies suggest that they may aid in fighting cancer, among other benefits. So go ahead and indulge! Tomatoes are incredibly low in calories so you can eat tons of them. On the California Tomato Festival 2013 roster so far: Capay, Los Banos, Fairfield, Fulton, Oxnard and Woodland.
