California Boating Shows and Events 2018

As the industry prepares for a busy winter boat show season — a crucial selling period — 260,000 new powerboats sold last year and the outlook for 2018 is another 5-6% increase in new powerboat sales. Economic indicators remain favorable to the recreational boating market with strong consumer confidence, rising disposable income and consumer spending. The outlook is good for boat sales.
Boat Trends
- Manufacturers build more accessible and versatile watercraft to attract new and younger boaters
- Sales expected to be up for ski and wake boats 7%
- Pontoon sales up 7-8%
- Personal watercraft 5-6%
- Saltwater fishing boats up 4%
- Freshwater fishing boats up 2%
- Boats between 22 and 32 feet up 9-10%
- $37 billion in 2017 U.S. consumer spending on boats, marine products and services
- 95% of recreational boats sold in U.S. are 95% American made
- Top states (in order of purchases) of new powerboats engines, trailers and accessories are Florida, Texas, Michigan, Minnesota North Carolina, New York, Wisconsin and California at #8.
