Great news! Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (pictured) opens April 1, 2019 in time for the annual Easter Sunrise Service on April 21st. The world’s largest rotating tram car which holds 80 passengers, travels along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon from the Valley Station (elevation 2,643 ft.) to the Mountain Station (elevation 8,516 ft.)

After a flood on February 14 the tourist attraction was closed for 46 days, resulting in almost $4 million in repair costs and lost ticket revenues. The Aerial Tramway was on track for record attendance in fiscal year 2018-19 till nearly 100,000 visitors were displaced by the storm closure.

Repairs included:

  • section of access road washed out over a drainage culvert
  • second section of road replaced due to subsidence from rain run-off
  • restoration of power to Mountain Station
  • Mountain Station roof
  • Valley Station fire suppression system
  • Valley Station freshwater system
  • Valley Station wastewater system
  • Valley Station facade
  • removal of rocks and debris from streams, parking lots and roadways

Inspiration abounds this Spring after California’s plentiful rains have created super blooms in the deserts, incredible snowpack in the Sierra Nevada mountains, and plenty for travelers to see and admire on Spring Break.
