Gold fever is brewing in the Sierra foothills with much excitement leading up to the World Gold Panning Championships September 11-18, 2016 in Placerville. Even Gold Rush Live festival at Marshal Gold Discovery Park in Coloma changed its annual October event to September with the announcement. ‘Athletes’ from around the world are expected to participate in the gold panning Olympics. In addition to the serious ‘games’ there are fun gold panning competitions for novices and kids.  The folks in El Dorado County have really outdone themselves putting this event together with eight action-packed days of entertainment ranging from a Flag of Nations Parade to the grand finale Closing Ceremony with Fireworks!  Coinciding with the festival is the annual Gold Bug Mine, one day only, public viewing of the Priest Mine on Sept. 3.

Approx. 45 minutes by car the incredible, free Gold Rush Days festival in Old Sacramento Sept. 2-5 is another must-see gold rush experience. The costumes, actors and activities are exceptional!
