While 3 mega lobster festivals (in Long Beach, Redondo Beach and San Pedro) have created a trifecta of gourmet tastes in the greater LA area for many summer-fall seasons, California Lobster Festival fans may have the wind knocked out of their sails in 2018 at the gloomy news the two of the three aren’t happening. Boo-hoo!

Don’t expect to see prices fall at California’s lobster fests and feeds, however. In Maine where the American lobster industry is based, retailers are selling live lobsters in the $7-12 per pound range, similar to past years. The wholesale market in the U.S. remains strong and in California where the prized food is shipped live and fresh, prices can be greatly inflated for festivals and fundraisers.

GONE!

Redondo Beach Lobster Festival organizers say it is on hiatus. They are examining future options with no hint of its return.

Port of Los Angeles Lobster Festival is on hiatus with no future date set for return. The event held four Guinness World Records:

  • The Most Seafood Prepared at an Outdoor Event (2009)
  • Most Lobster Cooked & Served in 8 Hours (2013)
  • Most Lobster Cooked at Once in Single Cooker (2013)
  • The Largest Serving of Lobster (2013)
