
As the Golden State begins another glorious year filled with sunrises and sunsets enjoyed in California’s state and national parks, it comes as no surprise that these coveted destinations are in demand.
In fact, Hetch Hetchy and Mariposa Grove in Yosemite National Park were closed due to lack of restroom services over the New Year’s holiday weekend from the impact of human waste as a result of the government shutdown. National Park Services installed portable restrooms to assist with the issue while lodging, dining, retail stores and the Yosemite Ski and Snowboard areas remained open.
The free admission days to National Parks have already been set for 2019 with the first event coming on January 21.
California State Parks have faced budget problems in the past but seem to be on track to recovery. Park-sponsored programs engaging the public such as First Day Hikes, offer endless opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy open spaces. Here are some of the hikes being offered to launch the new year:
