The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago when two dedicated women, Linda Maraniss  and Kathy O’Hara, launched the first event in Texas as part of their work with Ocean Conservancy. Held on the 3rd Saturday in September usually from 9 a.m. to Noon, it has become the biggest day for volunteering in California with approx. 900 locations in California this year!

Ocean Conservancy maintains the world’s largest, open-source database on marine debris and has helped more than one million Californians participate to clean up beaches, rivers, parks and outdoor spaces where trash accumulates. Not limited to beaches, volunteers throughout the state can pick diverse locations to pitch in.
