California War?

Nevermind that there’s a movement to make California a sanctuary state via Senate Bill 54, or that Louis Marinelli heads the secessionist group, Yes California, reportedly out of an apartment in Russia. Russian fur traders established posts, Spain considered it part of their colonial holdings, and Mexico took control of vast sums of land prior to California’s statehood in 1850. As part of the Compromise of 1850, California was admitted to the United States undivided as a free state, thus playing an important role in America’s Civil War.
- On President’s Day Weekend each year a mock Civil War battle is fought at Calico Ghost Town in Yermo. This year the event takes place on February 18 & 19, 2017.
- Californians host over 20 civil war reenactment events annually.
- Riley’s Farm in Oak Glen is among the state’s parks, farms and venues with ongoing Civil War learning programs.
