California, the state with a town named Weed, is going to see a lot more weeds popping up soon.  Pictured is a photo from the State of California Bureau of Cannabis Control (bcc.ca.gov). The agency is one of several geared up to provide answers, regulations, licensing and collect fees & taxes on this budding industry.

An attractive blonde, Lori Ajax, is pictured on the official website and listed as Chief of the Bureau. Also pictured are Governor Brown and several other officials.

Why is marijuana going to be the big agriculture story in 2018? As of Nov.9, 2016 it became legal for Californians age 21 and older to possess and grow marijuana. The law goes into effect Jan.1, 2018.

Many vineyards, commercial farms and cities in California have already looked into the viability of growing this coveted crop and have applied for temporary licenses to begin production or have crafted local regulations to take advantage of the expected boom.

A survey last year found that:

  • 49% of Americans support recreational pot use
  • 52% of American adults over age 18 have tried marijuana
  • 44% of those adults admit to still using pot
  • 65% are parents
  • Majority say they are worried about kids smoking cigarettes but are not so concerned about cannabis
  • 83% support legalizing medical marijuana

Many businesses have relaxed their drug testing policies, a necessity in finding workers.

SeeCalifornia.com maintains interest in California farming and issues such as organic growing and pesticide-free products, which are important issues to many consumers. 2018 promises to be a wild & woolly year in the Wild West with this lucrative cash crop rising into the ranks of mainstream.
