Approximately 15 Zoo Boos in California range from one-day to weekend events, or in the case of LA Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo there’s a celebration every day in October 2015! What is a Zoo Boo? It’s a name for Halloween themed activities that range from humans trick or treating at stations around a zoo, to the locals (bears, lions, giraffes, meerkats, owls, hippopotamuses, jaguars, lemurs and elephants,) getting treats such as pumpkins they can smash and eat. Halloween festivals at zoos offer yet another opportunity to support these fine institutions. You can attend the fun Zoo Boos or go online and contribute to the care and feeding of animals. The majority of zoos in the state are dedicated to the preservation of other lifeforms through a variety of programs ranging from breeding efforts for endangered species, to adoption of injured and permanently disabled animals who would simply die on their own.
