This week a portion of the approx. 15 million Latinos in California plan to celebrate Mexican Independence Day, Fiestas Patrias, which translates as ‘Patriotic Holidays’.  Since roughly two-thirds of Hispanics in the state are Mexicans, that equates to around 10 million residents identifying this week’s festivals as part of their heritage and roots. Most celebrations and events are free and include concerts, speeches, vendor markets and even parades. The biggest is held in Los Angeles where an estimated 200,000 people attend over several days. You’ll find events in L.A., Santa Ana, San Jose, Fresno, San Diego, Santa Fe Springs, Wilmington, Pasadena, Inglewood, El Centro, Coachella and Anaheim.
