Pictured is the amazing attraction in Chino Hills, Calif. where Hindus and people of all faiths are invited to explore. This week the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, a 20 acre site with the first earthquake-proof Mandir (temple) in the world, celebrates Diwali (Festival of Lights) and Annakut (“mountains of food” festival.) Just like the more than one billion Hindus internationally, Californians (including actress Julia Roberts,) who practice Hinduism look forward to a 5 day celebration representing the triumph of good over evil with symbolic traditions such as lighting lights, eating food and other traditions.

  • Diwali falls on November 7, 2018 with the entire 5 day event going from November 5-9.
  • The northern Indian city of Ayodhya broke a Guinness World Record this November 7th by lighting more than 300,000 clay oil lamps on the eve of  the Festival of Lights.
  • From Los Angeles to San Francisco celebrations actually span nearly a month with Bollywood dances in night clubs, dinner shows in restaurants, and events at temples such as Chino Hills.

It’s always a good time to celebrate light and love over darkness and despair. Perhaps that’s why this Hindu holiday resonates with so many people around the world.
