ELK GROVE, CALIF. — When graceful Tundra swans fly into the Sacramento Valley during their annual migration thoughts turn to the sounds of a magnificent Tchaikovsky ballet, Swan Lake. In the summer after the swans are long gone there’s another composer’s songs that swirl through the valley and minds of romantics with the arrival of Elk Grove’s famous Strauss Festival. This week (July 23-26, 2015) a 40 piece orchestra, more than 50 dancers, singers and hundreds of volunteers produce the best, free annual event in the greater Sacramento area. Held on the outdoor stage at Elk Grove Regional Park’s Strauss Island, audiences soak up an evening of world class music and dance from the grassy knoll at the edge of a lake where ducks swim, reflections shimmer on the water and a grand fireworks finale lights up the night sky.
Thank you to festival sponsors, and a special thanks to board members and nearly 300 volunteers who put in 45,000 hours of effort, accepting no monetary compensation.
