A beautiful California tree was NOT chosen in 2016 to grace the Nation’s Capitol but closer to home at our California State Capitol in Sacramento a 60-foot-tall white fir from Latour Demonstration State Forest near Redding gets lit on Monday, Dec. 5 in the 85th annual tree lighting ceremony. Governor Brown and First Lady Anne Gust Brown will light the Capitol Christmas tree with 7-year-old twin boys, Alex and Alan Rosales of Los Angeles.
The 94th annual National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony (thenationaltree.org) on Dec. 1, 2016 includes guest host Eva Longoria and performances by Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, Yolanda Adams, James Taylor, The Lumineers, Marc Anthony, Afro Blue, The Airmen of Note and Simone Manuel. President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will light the tree in President’s Park in Washington, D.C.
