The City of Long Beach is known for its reduction in the homeless population due to a comprehensive effort to tackle tough issues. Last year, the City reached its goal of eliminating chronic veteran homelessness. If you drove around major California cities on Christmas day you may have seen people stop their cars & trucks to distribute items to homeless individuals. Here is one of many programs to help homeless succeed in California.

HOMELESSNESS NATIONALLY

  • 549,928 people in the U.S. were without homes
  • Homelessness fell 3% in the U.S. last year
  • In the Western states homelessness increased  7% in Washington, 4% in Hawaii and 3% in California

CALIFORNIA HOMELESS COUNT

  • County of Los Angeles 47,000 (6% increase in 1 year)
  • San Diego 8,742 (1,100 are veterans)
  • San Francisco 7,539 (adults and youth)
  • Sacramento 2,500+
  • Long Beach 1,513 (unsheltered)
