Christmas Miracles Experienced by Commercial Drivers

For non-truck driving Californians who “white knuckle it” when traveling next to commercial trucks, the tendency is to curse them for being so close to your lane.  Remember–if it’s under the Christmas tree, chances are a professional truck driver made it possible.  Many of these good guys & gals are working Christmas Day, often traveling cross-country by themselves. They  typically spend holidays with other truckers in the truck stops and say that although there are ways to connect and celebrate with family, the most memorable moments are often shared with strangers. Holiday generosity goes both ways–drivers help stranded motorists and stressed out families, but are gifted with dinner, gas, or holiday presents while on the road.

Here are a few wonderful tales compiled by Rand McNally transport & freight division:

  • “I just parked and noticed a vehicle and its occupants paying more attention to my rig than I was comfortable with, so I got out and stood in front of the truck with my arms folded watching them watch me. The driver pulled closer revealing a very excited two-and-a-half year old. His grandpa told me, ‘He LOVES BIG TRUCKS’. For the next 15 minutes grandpa, grandma, his mommy and daddy enjoyed family time in my truck taking pictures laughing–all sharing an experience that makes the long lonely days of what I do, worth it!”  – Doug
  • A retired paramedic on a run during the holidays came upon a car crash with a passenger in labor. He delivered her beautiful little girl – Crystal Marrie, 8 lbs. 9 oz.
  • Miracles can be found in the simple and unexpected, like one driver arriving in Salt Lake City and seeing the mountains covered with beautiful snow. He said it was a miracle of nature unfolding beyond his windshield.
