DEATH VALLEY, CALIF. — You don’t want to wear a wool suit and top hat or long dress with layers of petticoats when the temperature hovers around 120 degrees. For seven months (April – October) the average daytime temperature is above 90 degrees and in July & August the average is 115F! But come November when the Death Valley 49ers hold their annual festival to celebrate the California Gold Rush, the weather is spectacular for the event featuring a Pioneering Costume Contest, Wheelbarrow Races, and the Death Valley Wagon Train. The public is invited to attend Death Valley 49ers Encampment November 5-9, 2014, with a modest $20 fee buying you admission and membership in a non-profit organization that hosts this annual event. Another fantastic heritage event this weekend is the annual Cowpoke Fall Festival held at the historic Blue Goose Fruit Shed in Loomis.
