This weekend there are many festivals in California but people get especially excited about those involving dogs. Sure, the US Open of Surfing, billed as the biggest surfing competition in the U.S., is happening in Huntington Beach, but in Imperial Beach (San Diego County) those same two-to-three foot swells that are predicted offer an amazing ride for dogs clad in their finest beach attire at the Unleashed by Petco Surfing Competition.
In Pacific Grove where a 100-year-old tradition called Feast of Lanterns (feast-of-lanterns.org) takes place this weekend, one of the liveliest celebrations is the Pet Parade with dogs dressed like characters from the “Lantern” play, including Monarch butterflies. Hundreds turn out on Friday (July 29, 2016) to participate.
It’s starting to feel like the Dog Days again. Always check before bringing your pets to see if they can come!
