Dragon Boat Races Not a Drag in California

The exciting sounds of drum beats and colorful boats adorned with fierce “dragon heads” race across the water this summer & fall in annual traditions that invite the public to watch participants compete for prizes. Dragon boat races require synchronization, a steady drum beat for inspiration, team cheers, and celebrations for those who win. California hosts a handful of Dragon Boat races that aren’t a drag.

  • Long Beach – Dragon Boat Festival July 28-29, 2012 at Marine Stadium, Long Beach, CA ladragonboat.com
  • Crestline – Lake Gregory, Crestline Dragon Boat Races August 18-19, 2012. Races go from 10 a.m. to 3:30. Cost is $10 per boat / person, teams of 12,  lgdragonboat.org
  • South El Monte – LA Dragon Boat Festival will be held at Legg Lake Park, Whittier Narrows Recreation Area on August 18, 2012, ladragonboat.com
