It’s Earth Day every day in California. Why? The state with the most diverse landscapes (mountains, deserts and beaches), largest population and most visitors also experiences the greatest impacts.  With each passing year since it was founded in 1970 Earth Day has increasingly become a daily effort in California to recycle, reuse, conserve and pitch in to clean up. Here are some great Earth Day events worth celebrating!

A few California statistics:

  • 39 million population (approx.)
  • 36 million cars, trucks and motorcycles registered to operate in California
  • 21% cut in West Coast ozone-forming pollutants offset by China’s 21% rise in ozone-forming pollutants that reach California according to NASA/JPL study released in 2015.
  • California led the nation in 2013 by diverting approx. 65% of its trash (60 million tons) into higher-value products.
  • Statewide recycling goal: diverting 75% of our waste from landfills by 2020.
