El Capitan State Beach Vacation, Retreat on California’s Central Coast

Published on: August 16, 2012

If you’re looking for some old-fashioned fun and want to ease into the camping experience, El Capitan State Beach in Santa Barbara County offers one of the best opportunities for RV’ing, tent camping, and family vacations spent outdoors  on the cheap.

Located north of the city of Santa Barabara directly off I-101, the campground features both day visits and overnight stays. The sandy beach is ideal for swimming, surfing, fishing sunbathing, picnics and exploring, thanks to rocky tidepools and shade provided by sycamore and oaks along El Capitan Creek. A stairway provides access from the bluffs to the beach area. Beach wheelchairs are also available for use by the public with no cost.  For information on making camping reservations, see reserveamerica.com. For day use, no reservations are necessary.  El Capitan State Beach is one of many beaches and state parks in the Central Coast region.
