The fall colors are beginning to show in California, according to John Poimiroo, who produces annual updates of places to see before winter’s arrival. Manzanita Lake and Hat Creek Meadow in Lassen Volcanic National Park are already displaying nice lime, yellow, rusty orange and gold colors, a sign of things to come throughout the Sierra Nevadas and mountain ranges in the state.
Fall foliage in California traditionally starts showing in early October and peaks by mid-to-late October. It depends on the weather and temperatures — some years the color displays are a fizzle — but most the time the sights are quite spectacular. For updated postings see: californiafallcolor.com
Another great source for information about Fall Foliage Drive Tours is Mono County Tourism, which produces a map you can look at online (monocounty.org) or download and print for you fall foliage trip.
