You’ve heard that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but after you’ve attended a Greek Festival, you can’t help but want to be Greek.  At the Los Angeles Greek Festival actor/producer Tom Hanks and Greek wife Rita Wilson, who co-produced “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”, shared the stage with Nia Vardalos, the actress appearing in their movie.   Hospitality is the trademark of Grecian culture, as you’ll likely discover at festivals that are affordable to attend. Featuring some of the most popular, flavorful Greek foods and dishes, the meals and snacks are the highlight for many ‘house’ guests, but there’s also lots of entertainment, dancing, and of course–the Ouzo, a licorice flavored alcoholic beverage–OPA!   The California Greek Festival roster is really going into full swing. May is a great time to find a fest and get your fix of foods such as Dolmathes (grape leaves stuffed with rice, pine nuts and herbs,) Souvlakia (shish-kabob cooked over charcoal,) Gyros, and Spanakopita (spinach phyllo pie.)
