Fly Kites or Drink Wine

This weekend brings variety (the spice of life) to the events scene in California where you can head for Santa Barbara’s Winter Wine Classic (californiawinefestival.com) and sample over 50 artfully selected wines ranging from Peju’s 2004 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon to Beringer Vineyard’s 2011 Quantum Red Wine. Cost: $95. Or you can go fly a kite on the beach in Long Beach at The Indian Kites Festival. Cost: $5. Other interesting things happening include a rabbit show at Kern County Fairgrounds, a cat show at Del Mar fairgrounds and the Grand National Roaster Show at Fairplex in Pomona. Upcoming celebrations range from Super Bowl Sunday to Chinese (Lunar) New Year, Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day, all within weeks.
