Is the admission fee keeping you from seeing museums in California? Now is the time to check out free museum days in several of California’s favorite museum cities — Los Angeles, Sacramento and San Diego. Unlike the fall Smithsonian Free Museum Days which is a national program, these events are produced by local organizations in our state.

Los Angeles Free Museum Day Jan.28, 2018 contains a list of 38 museums in Southern California spanning four counties and cities such as Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Riverside and Santa Ana. Among the topical interests you can explore art is most prominent, but you can also see GRAMMY exhibits, tar pits, classic cars and more.

Sacramento Free Museum Day on Feb.3, 2018 includes favorites again this year such as Sacramento Zoo and dozens of museums exploring California’s rich history focused on government, native culture, cars, electricity, medicine, military, education and more.

San Diego Museum Month Feb.1-28, 2018 sponsored by Macy’s isn’t completely FREE and it’s a little more work to enjoy. You have to physically visit a Macy’s store to get your museum pass which is honored at more than 40 museums throughout the area. It offers 50% off admission to popular fee-based museums.
