We have yet to survive St. Patrick’s Day and already the Greeks and Italians are planning their festas and festivals. Opa! This year as Greek churches throughout California begin organizing their food and liquor orders for their biggest fundraisers of the year, they are looking for ways to assure they don’t over-order or over-spend. A Greek festival organizer last August told us attendance was down,  providing extra challenges moving forward into 2014.

Among the highlights at California Greek Festivals this year,  the Los Angeles Greek Festival (which often includes attendance by actor/producer Tom Hanks and Greek wife Rita Wilson,) has announced singing star Vassy (pictured) will be guest host. She is known for her mysterious, Mediterranean looks and unique voice featured recently in the trailer for Disney’s Oscar nominated animation film “Frozen”. She closed 2013 with a Top 5 hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play with her song “Mad”, though you may have heard songs she’s written in Grey’s Anatomy, Tina Fey’s new movie, “Admission”, and many others. Her appearance will no doubt attract a fan-base to the L.A. event, which happens in September.
