Slow down — when you hang around Seal Beach, California. This week seems especially relaxed. The beaches and pier aren’t crowded, the benches are available for lounging in the sunshine, and there’s room at The Hangout Restaurant & Beach Bar to have a cocktail or dine.

Seal Beach is a unique city in Orange County bordering Los Angeles County. With the first planned senior community of its type in the nation, gated Leisure World in Seal Beach contains a third of the city’s population. In addition, Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station greets military ships and vessels on a weekly basis.   In a place known for relaxation, it’s kind of surprising that the busiest freeway in the nation intersects the city!

When you go to Seal Beach:

  • Take time to stroll the Seal Beach Pier where you can fish at no charge
  • Shop & dine along the 3 blocks of Main Street
  • Drive by Leisure World on Seal Beach Blvd. to see the 60s era gates and world globe
  • Bring your electric car and park at one of the specially-equipped beach parking stalls
  • Let your toddlers play in the gated & enclosed beach playground with swings & slides
  • Windsurf or kite surf from Southern California’s only dedicated municipal launch port
  • Surf Ray Bay
  • Ride the San Gabriel Bike Path
  • Say hi to Slick the Seal
