In my Southern California town the top 40 salary earners in our city government work for fire and police, earning no less than $265,000/year in pay and compensation (only the city manager and city attorney are among their ranks in earnings.)  The fire captains average around $350,000/year and one firefighter paramedic makes just under $300,000. See what your city officials are earning (http://transparentcalifornia.com/).  While their services are valuable, their pay is in stark contrast to the North Coast firefighters / volunteers who help protect the stunning redwood forests with over 20 volunteer fire departments. The public can help support their efforts through donations and fundraisers such as the annual Redwood Coast Fire Protection District Hog & Lamb Bar B Q on May 24, 2015 at the Manchester Fire Station.  The food is delicious and well worth $25.
