Honoring National Parks in California

San Diego’s Cabrillo Festival re-enacts the arrival of 16th century explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo as he steps ashore on Ballast Point. The laying of the wreath at Cabrillo National Monument and festival events at nearby Naval Base Point are  free, but aren’t the only place to celebrate California’s national parks on National Public Lands Day September 30, 2017.

Free admission to National Parks 

  • Get in free to California’s (and all) national parks — Yosemite, Sequoia-Kings Canyon, Lassen Volcanic NP, etc. on Saturday, September 30, 2017
  • Get in free to national parks on Veterans Day Weekend November 11-12, 2017

Volunteer on National Public Lands Day

  • California has close to 100 places to “dig in,” including Operation Gum Drop Removal Project at Cabrillo National Monument
  • Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge clean up
  • Beale AFB Pollinator Habitat Restoration
