I Guess That’s Why They Call it the Blues – Lake Tahoe Blue

Published on: June 18, 2012

Lake Tahoe is known for its clarity, panoramic views, and for being blue. The lake never freezes over and even in the winter it is still a pale blue.  California, the land of 3,000 lakes, has no finer lake than “Blue.” Each summer the lake is the focal point of entertainment–boating, swimming,  Stand Up paddling, fishing, beach sunbathing, and lake events that turn the lake a patriotic red, white & blue. There are two spectacular fireworks shows on the lake each summer–one on the 4th of July and one to end the summer on Labor Day Weekend.

Lake Tahoe shares its shoreline with Nevada–around two-thirds of the shoreline are in California, so we like to claim it as our state’s own lake, a pride & joy!  Bragging rights of the blue lake include it being the largest alpine lake in North America. And only one lake in the U.S., Crater Lake (Oregon,)  is deeper than Lake Tahoe, whose depth is 1,645 feet, close to 1/3 mile deep. Tahoe was formed  approx. 2 million years ago as part of the Lake Tahoe Basin.

Summer on California’s blue lake will offer incredibly experiences this year. Hear are a few.
