Everything’s just ducky in California, home to the mighty Anaheim Ducks hockey team, California Duck Days in Davis, and Duck Derby season, which starts this weekend in San Luis Obispo. Crowds converge on the banks of San Luis Creek near Mission Plaza on Feb. 27 to see thousands of brightly-colored toy ducks get dumped into the water. An exciting race is the fundraising effort of Cal Poly’s Sigma Nu fraternity. They lost a “brother” to cancer, and produce the event each year with proceeds benefitting American Cancer Society. There are more than a dozen duck derbies in California raising money for special causes. Next week the Woman’s Club in Dana Point hosts its annual Duck Derby at Festival of Whales. Other cities with duck derbies include Santa Cruz, Sutter Creek, Lake Gregory, Westport, Fremont, Huntington Beach, Redding, South Lake Tahoe, San Clemente and Palmdale. If you’re looking to host a duck derby here are a few tips!
